L’O Roma was born from the passion about horology of Sandro Fratini and the vision of Giulio Fratini to redevelop the Hotel Tiziano in Rome. In collaboration with artist Mattia Donati, this special project brings to life a series of bespoke installations at the newly opened Hotel L’O in Rome. Inspired by the Fratini family’s profound passion for vintage haute horlogerie, Donati’s works celebrate the intricate artistry and timeless elegance of watchmaking. Each piece reflects a shared devotion to time, memory, and craftsmanship, transforming the hotel into a curated space where art and horology converge.

A one-of-a-kind piece to represent a unique object. Positioned in the hotel’s entrance hall, this piece serves as a symbol for lovers and collectors alike. Chosen by the owners for its connection to the Roman jet-set of the 1980s, it celebrates the iconic Paul Newman dial, with intricate repetitions of minute details that accentuate its timeless beauty.
The artwork is meticulously crafted from a single block of metal, serving as the frame for 15 backlit panels that together create the image. The burnished structure is coated with a special finish used in luxury sports cars. To preserve the purity of the composition, a custom assembly technique was developed, ensuring that no screws or fasteners are visible.
Designed as a tribute to Mr. Fratini’s profound passion for the brand, this room showcases some of Audemars Piguet’s most rare and iconic vintage timepieces.
The series conceptually explores two contrasting aspects: both in the literal sense (front and back) and the metaphorical. The visible exterior — seen by both the wearer and the observer — and the hidden interior, more elusive and difficult to access, representing the complexity within.
The movement in the background remains consistent across all six pieces, drawing inspiration from the Royal Oak collection that unites the timepieces portrayed.
Inspired by archival images from the Fratini family collection, 96 bespoke artworks have been created for the rooms, beautifully complementing the design vision of Antonella Gatti Fratini, who curated the hotel’s interiors.
Each piece is a tribute to the individual character of the room. Beyond traditional numbering, each room is named after a specific watch model, displayed in various interpretations throughout the space.
These remarkable timepieces rest upon an antique map of Rome, serving as both a tribute to the city and a guide for guests, allowing them to easily locate the iconic landmarks of Rome’s historic center, while igniting a sense of anticipation for a journey through the Eternal City.
The glass elevator, which connects the Hall directly to the Santa Rooftop, is entirely lined with components from various movements of Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, and Rolex.
This design aims to envelop guests in a sensory experience, as if they were inside the very mechanism of a timepiece, surrounded by a symphony of precision components.
Some of these details have been incorporated into the elevator’s digital numbering, further enhancing the connection to the world of horology.
The stunning rooftop is adorned with two backlit installations, each showcasing Rolex bracelets that have become legends in the world of horology.
Through a digital reimagining of these iconic pieces and their intricate details, the installations evoke the themes of movement, time, and the infinite.
